MOVING PARTS is a two-day symposium gathering scholars, artists, investigators, and performers working with puppets, performing objects, live bodies in movement, and the sympathetic and often mysterious relations between the two. A series of panel discussions and conversations will bring multiple disciplinary perspectives to puppets and other inanimate elements that both depend on and make demands on performers’ bodies, as they share fictional life with the performer on stage. MOVING PARTS will offer a series of perspectives on how the articulations of the body and its object-partner can be notated, imagined, and shared across discourses.
MOVING PARTS is produced by CAFÉ CONCRET and funded by SSHRC and the Concordia University Faculty of Fine Arts, with the support of the Concordia Department of Theatre. The symposium is organized by Mark Sussman, Jesse Orr, and Erin Hill with support from Dinaïg Stall, Clea Minaker, and Allison Peacock.
